2013 Michigan kick-off results: UCLA starts season strong with pair of wins

@umichwaterpolo

The 2013 Michigan kick-off got underway on Saturday with UCLA easily winning both of their games.

The 2013 Michigan kick-off is the first big event of the women's water polo season, and it is no shock that UCLA won both of their games. The No. 3 ranked Bruins took care of No. 7 San Diego State with 3-1 lead after the first, and 8-5 a the half en route to their win.

Their game against No. 11 Michigan started out as a tougher than expected game as the game was tied 3-3 after the first quarter, but UCLA rattled of nine unanswered goals to win 12-3.

A surprise team is the Colorado St. Rams who was able to hang with Michigan in the tournament opener, 15-9. The Rams held their own in two of the four quarters, but they fell short in the second and fourth quarters. They just did not have enough to hang with the home team. The Rams also were able to make a solid impression by losing to No. 14 Indiana Hoosiers, by a score of 10-8.

That game for Indiana may have been an aberration, as they were able to nearly upset No. 9 San Jose St. Spartans.
