2012 CWPA Tournament: Semifinals Are Set With Brown Vs. Princeton, Michigan Vs. Maryland

The semifinals are set at the 2012 CWPA Eastern Championships and in a surprise the Brown Bears made it to the semfiinals as the No. 6 seed. Brown upset No. 3 seed Indiana Hoosiers in a low scoring 5-4 game. Playing at home may have been the difference in the 5-4 game.

The game winner came from freshman Madison Pepper who scored the only goal in the fourth quarter with 3:22 left. This was a defensive game that featured a scoreless first quarter and the game tied at one at the half. The third quarter saw an offensive explosion with each team scoring three goals, but it was Brown who led 1-0 and never gave up that lead as Indiana was playing catchup the entire way.

In the other games Maryland was able to revenge a loss in the Western Divisional tournament against Hartwick by winning 7-4. Michigan moved on by defeating Bucknell 12-8 and Princeton got past Harvard 9-6.

Here is Saturday's semifinal matchups which will feature a South vs. South and West vs. West matchup (times are EST):

6:00 Brown Bears vs. Princeton Tigers
7:20 Michigan Wolverines vs. Maryland Terrapins

We will see if the Brown home pool advantage can help them make it one step close to an NCAA tournament berth. Also, games can be seen online through GameCentral.
