Six conference championships concluded on Sunday and six automatic bids were handed out to the 2012 NCAA tournament. The biggest surprise of the day was that the UCLA Bruins upset the Stanford Cardinal 8-7 in overtime. What makes the win even more impressive is just the week prior is that Stanford beat UCLA 8-1.
With that win it gave UCLA the automatic berth out of the MPSF and likely the No. 1 overal seed in the NCAA tournament.
Over in the CWPA all the talk was how good the Western Division was, but at the end of the day it was the South Division champions Princeton Tigers who are onto the NCAA tournament after defeating the Maryland Terrapins 6-5. The win for Princeton is their first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 2000.
Here is the list of conference winners who earned auto bids.
MPSF: UCLA defeats Stanford 8-7
CWPA: Princeton defeats Maryland 6-5
Big West: UC Irvine defeats UC Davis 10-5
WWPA: LMU defeats UC San Diego 7-6
SCIAC: Pomona-Pitzer defeats Redlands 12-11
MAAC: Iona defeats Wagner 10-9
The other two at-large berths will likely be handed out to Stanford and USC who finished in third place in the MPSF conference tournament by defeating Cal 6-4.
