In the championship game of the Visa Water Polo International -- also going by the name Test Event -- Australia defeated the United States by a score of 6-5. This event was a four-team tournament also featuring Great Britain and Hungary.

Team USA got off to a 2-0 after the first period but in the second period it was all Australia who outscored USA 4-1 to lead 4-3 at the half half. Failed power play opportunities is what caused the United States to trail at halftime.

Australia never gave up that 4-3 lead and anytime the United States would cut the lead to one goal Australia would respond. The United States would trail 6-4 at the end of the third quarter and Courtney Mathewson made it 6-5 on a power play goal.

The fourth quarter was a defensive battle as neither team scored and the closest the United States got to a goal was on a 6-on-5 opportunity with 1:19 left but they could not convert. On the day Team USA was 2-for-9 on power play chances and missed their only penalty shot on the day.

Lauren Wenger led the United States in scoring with two goals.
