Two games are in the books and the biggest surprised on the men's side is that three-time defending Olympic champion Hungary is 0-2 and could possibly, not likely, miss out on advancing to the quarterfinal stages. Hungary will defeat Great Britain and very likely Romania, but their game against the United States will be a close one. The two played in California and the United States won both matches.
Hungary will need to get at least four points and maybe more to move on, and that means they must defeat either Romania and the United States to get to four points. If they can somehow manage to get two wins and a tie then Hungary should be safe.
Serbia and the United States already look good to move on as they both have four points and Team USA has yet to play Great Britain and Serbia has not played Romania, a team they should at the very worst get a tie.
Over in Group A the picture is not so clear as Greece and Italy played to a draw so each team earned one point apiece. Leading this group is Croatia who is 2-0 with wins against Greece and Spain, and those two are some of the tougher competition in Group A. As for Greece they are not looking all that great with only one point after two games, and will need to get wins over Australia and Kazakhstan, which they should, if they want to advance.
Here is the standings for each group:
