The first semifinal game is USC vs. Stanford and the two have faced each other twice it was USC who came out on top. USC won a 10-9 overtime match and most recently won 9-6, both of those wins came on the campus at Stanford. This time around the games will be at USC. The Trojans are undefeated this year, and more than likely should be able to continue their winning streak on Saturday.

The other semifinal game is UCLA vs. Cal, and these two teams have faced each other two times as well. UCLA won both games, but they were extremely close each time as they won in overtime. With Cal we are not sure what to get grom a week to week basis, ever since they had five players suspended they have been an up and down team. However, Cal has won their past six games, and are possibly playing their best water polo to date. Making this semifinal match interesting.

UCLA nearly has at least the NCAA at-large spot locked up, but if they lose then there could be the possibility of them not getting into the NCAA tournament. Who knows what could happen to USC, but they are in regardless, so UCLA needs to make it to the final game to secure a spot at the NCAA tournament.

The game of the day belonged to Long Beach State vs. Stanford, the game went to sudden death overtime with Stanford winning 14-13. This was Long Beach State's best season in years, and they were very close advancing to the semifinals. It would not be their day as Stanford scored 26 seconds in the third-overtime period to advance. It would be Stanford's Alex Bowen who sank the game winner, and that would be his sixth goal of the game.

Long Beach State had a chance in regulation with less than 30 seconds left, but Spencer White's breakaway counter attack hit the top cross bar and went out of bounds.

Throughout the game, Long Beach State was either tied or behind by a goal or two, but they did not have enough to move on.

The 2012 MPSF tournament is being hosted by USC, and begins on Friday Nov. 23 through Nov. 25.

The 2012 MPSF tournament gets underway the day after Thanksgiving this Friday Nov. 25, and is being hosted by USC. The MPSF is the last of the conferences to host their tournament. This past weekend was the final week of regular season games, and the No. 1 seed was decided when USC defeated UCLA to claim that top spot.

The big story of this tournament is that Long Beach State, who is the fifth seed, is making their first MPSF tournament since 2008, and could possibly give Stanford a run for their money in the first round game. The last time the two played, Stanford escaped with a one-goal victory.

At one point in the season, UC Santa Barbara was the No. 2 team in the country, but ever since they were that high in the rankings they fell to a 1-7 league record, and are the No. 8 seed. They will be facing undefeated USC in the opening round game.
